Silas Stacy7 Whitney (Hananiah6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), born in Winchendon, Massachusetts, 27 Jun 1805; married in Chichester, New Hampshire, 18 Jun 1829, Mary Bryant Cate, born 9 Feb 1811; died 13 Jun 1892. He was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts, on a farm and on leaving home worked in a mill carding wool. Later he was engaged in the general menchandising business at Centre Harbor, New Hampshire. About 1852 he removed to Pittsfield, New Hampshire, in same trade. In 1855 or early in 1856 he sold out and went to Dubuque, Iowa, for a short time, thence to Chicago and engaged in the produce and grain commission business, which he continued up to a short time before his death. The family went to Chicago in Nov., 1856, from New Hampshire. He died Aug. 5, 1873; resided Chicago, Illinois.

v. Mary Ella Whitney, born 3 Feb 1853; died 26 Aug 1859.
