Early April 1635 John registered with his wife Eleanor and sons John, Richard, Nathaniel, Thomas and Jonathan as passengers in the ship "Elizabeth and Ann," Roger Cooper, master. He settled in Watertown in June and bought the 16 acre homestall of John Strickland at what is now Belmont and East Common streets. This homestead descended to his son Joshua Whitney, of Groton, who sold it October 29, 1697 to Nathan Fiske. Whitney was admitted a freeman March 3, 1635-36 and was appointed constable June 1, 1641. He was a selectman 1638-1655, inclusive, and was town clerk in 1655. He died June 1, 1673. His first wife, Eleanor _____ was born 1599 and died in Watertown May 11,1659. He married second, in Watertown, Sep 29, 1659 to Judith Clement who died before her husband. His will was dated April 3, 1673. Children: 1. Mary, baptized in England, May 23, 1619; died young 2. Married September 30, 1672 to Abigail, probably a daughter of Thomas and Mary Tarball. Children: 1. Joshua 2. Sarah 3. Mary

He married first, in Chelmsford, Mass, March 1700 to Lydia Perham who was born February 19, 1673 and died in Groton August 24, 1716. He second married, in Newton, on April 25, 1717 to Margaret Mirick who was born after 1692, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Trowbridge) Mirick. Children by his first wife:

2. Lydia 3. Joshua Children by his second wife: 4. John 5. Elizabeth 6. Caleb William Whitney was born May 5, 1701 in Groton. About 1753 he moved to Canaan, CT. He married July 16, 1723 to Mary Whittemore. Children: 1. William

3. Abigail Thomas Whitney was born February 28, 1727 in Killingly and settled in Canaan, where he received a deed of land from his father November 5, 1750. In 1761 he was a resident of Claverack, Columbia County, NY, at which time he deeded back the land in Canaan to his father. He was a farmer in Noblestown and Hillsdale where he died June 26, 1766. He was active in the strife between Massachusetts and New York over the jurisdiction of Livingston Manor, and was shot in what were known as the anti-rent riots, causing his death. He married Elizabeth Boardman, of Sheffield, Mass, who died before 1793, in Chenango, NY, where she lived with her son Joshua. Children:

2. John 3. William 4. Elizabeth Joshua born November 27, 1748 probably in Noblestown and resided in Chenango until 1785, when he settled in what is now Binghamton. While returning from Philadelphia with a stock of merchandise he died at Wind Gap, Pennsylvania September 26, 1793. He married Hannah Green who was born September 14, 1748 and died August 17, 1723. [This has to have been a typo probably was 1823.] Children:

He married (1st) Rhoda Jewell who died January 21, 1823 and (2nd) Julia Crooker. Children: By his first wife 1. Pemelia who married Thomas G. Waterman 2. Virgil 3. Vincent 4. George 5. Washington 6. Franklin 7. Joshua 8. Rhoda (died young) 9. William 10. Mary Amelia 11. Charles 12. Robert (died young)
