Edwin Ruthven8 Whitney (Allen7, John6, Samuel5, John4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Allen7 and Aramantha McDorman (Wright) Whitney, was born 20 Apr 1838, Ellisburgh, NY and died after 1880.
He married, 14 Aug 1862, Oneida, MI, Nancy Hortensia Mann, daughter of Elias and Electa (Beebe) Mann, of Amherst, OH. She was born 6 May 1841, Amherst, OH, and died after 1880.
He was a farmer. They settled at Oneida, and were living there in 1874. He enlisted at Oneida, 25 Nov 1862, as a corporal, in Co. G, 27th Reg., Mich. Vol. Infantry; served till 28 Apr 1864, when, being unfit for duty in the field, he was transferred to Co. K, 22d Reg., Vet. Reserve Corps, at Washington, DC; and was discharged at Cincinnati, OH, 9 Aug 1865.
