Family:Whitney, Silas (1779-1846)

Capt. Silas7 Whitney (Silas6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Silas6 and Sarah (Withington) Whitney; born 1 Oct 1779; married 31 Dec 1801, Hannah Cushing; born 9 Jun 1783; died 5 Mar 1854.

He was a farmer on a part of the homestead for several years, and was an officer in the militia at an early age. He was lieutenant in 1803 and styled captain after 1805. He resided in Walpole, New Hampshire, from 1810 to 1815; he then returned to Ashburnham, where he died. He died 4 Sep 1846; resided Asburnham, Massachusetts.

i. Silas8 Whitney, born 23 Apr 1803; married Olive Knight.
ii. Hannah C. Whitney, born 15 Sep 1805; died Baltimore, Maryland 26 Nov 1826.
iii. David C. Whitney, born 24 Feb 1808; died 6 Aug 1809.
iv. David C. Whitney, born 14 Apr 1810; married Tyla Buffum Bowdish and Harriett A. Shepstone.
v. Susan Whitney, born 21 Aug 1812; died young.
vi. Charles Whitney, born 18 Jun 1815; married Susan Davis.
vii. Joseph C. Whitney, born 23 Jan 1818; married 3 Feb 1842, Florence E. Weston; resided Baltimore, Maryland.
viii. Sarah Whitney, born 22 Jun 1820; married 31 Oct 1844, James W. Gardner. She died s. p. at Springfield, 30 May 1865.
ix. Milton Whitney, born 9 Oct 1829; married Annie M. Weston.
