Rollin E. Whitney was born in Apr 1849 in Sheldon, Franklin, Vermont, USA as the first child of William Porter Whitney and Roxana Maria (Whitney). Roxana´s maiden name is not known. Roxana also used Rosana as a first name which was perhaps a nickname. Apparently William and Rosana separated/divorced after the birth of Rollin. William remarried Sept 1852 at age 27 to a Roxanna Kinsman at age 16 in Rochester Vermont. Rosana apparently remarried, according to the 1880 Census in Midland Michigan, Rollin was indicated as a stepson in the Pond Family.
When he was 34, he married Rhoda Herrick (22 years old) on 11 Apr 1883 in Midland, Midland, Michigan, USA. Note: On 24 Feb 1891 Rollin and Rhoda experienced a stillborn daughter per archives in Midland Michigan.
