Minor M. Whitney (Minor Merrick), son of Minor Merrick and Sophia (Wilson) Whitney, was born Jun 1847, Amite Co., MS, and died 1917, MS.

He married, 1873, Amite Co., MS, Mary Alameda Cotten, daughter of William A. and Aletha (Jackson) Cotten. She was born in 1850.

He is listed in the 1880 census in Amite Co. where his father is listed as born in NY. He served as Private, Company I, 4th Mississippi Cavalry, C.S.A. He served as a Private, Company C, 1st Louisiana Cavalry, C.S.A. He was taken prisoner of war, and paroled at Gainesville, AL, 12 May 1865. His residence was at Liberty, MS.[1]
