Obituary/Newspaper, Milwaukee Daily Sentinel, Milwaukee, WI 1 Dec 1857 p. 1, col. 6 Jonas Whitney.:

"Jonas and Lovisy (Lovisa) had at least two children: Julia Maria Whitney (1818) and Elizabeth Hastings Whitney (1824). In 1826, Jonas moved his family to Syracuse, NY. Probably by 1835, they were in Springfield, IL, where his daughter, Julia, met and married Caleb Wall in June of 1836. After Caleb and his family moved to Milwaukee, Jonas and Lovisy moved there in early 1849. Unfortunately, Lovisy died soon after that. In his obituary, it says "In each of these places he was well known as a man of sterling integrity and devoted piety. In Syracuse, he was connected with the Presbyterian Church of which Dr. Adams was pastor. He was elected Deacon by the Second Presbyterian Church in Springfield, and held the same office in Plymouth Church in this city. He was one of those men who neither church nor community can well afford to lose. If not a man of wealth, he was a man of worth. His influence was wide and beneficent; less noisy perhaps than that of some who accomplish but little, yet powerful in its very quietness."[i] He died on 29 Nov 1857 at Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI, at age 66; "For some years his health had been feeble. He had suffered from paralysis more than once. His death finally occurred in less than an hour from the commencement of the attack."
