Dorothy May Spring (Clayton Burton, Alfred F., Sylvester P., Erastus, Amos, Amos, Abigail Chadwick, Sarah⁴ Whitney, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), daughter of Clayton Burton and Bertha Nellie (Green) Spring, was born 30 May 1918, Alexander, Genesee County, NY, and died 28 Aug 2007, Village of East Aurora, Erie County, NY.

She married, 30 Oct 1936, Alexander, Genesee County, NY, Harry Donald Maier, son of Charles J. and Jennie Elizabeth (Peters) Maier. He was born 16 Dec 1916, Attica, Wyoming County, NY, and died 5 Feb 1978, Warsaw, Wyoming County, NY.

Obituary of Harry Donald Maier:

Attica: Harry D. Maier, 70, of 3914 East Main St., died at 4:10 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 5, 1978) at Wyoming Community Hospital, Warsaw, where he had been a patient for one week.

Mr. Maier was born in Attica, Dec. 16, 1907, a son of Charles and Jennie Peters Maier. A farm operator preceding his retirement, he was a member of Attica Center Baptist Church and Citizens Lodge 309, IOOF.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Spring Maier; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Joanne) Janes of Castile and Mrs. Timothy (Beverly) Burke of Buffalo; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and three brothers, Edward of Sun City, Fla., Ward of Arcade and Gordon of Attica. He was the father of the late Judith Maier.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Maier

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Maier, 89, formerly of Attica and Warsaw, Wyoming County, died Tuesday (August 28, 2007) at Aurora Park Rehabilitation Center in East Aurora after a long illness.

She was born May 30, 1918, the daughter of the late Clayton Burton and Bertha Nellie (Green) Spring of Alexander. Mr. Spring was a logger and farmer, his family having been prominent farmers, military officers and civic leaders for 200 years in Genesee and Wyoming counties. Mr. Spring descended from Elder William Brewster, spiritual leader of the Pilgrims who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 and the Rev. John Duncanson, tutor of King James VI in Scotland. Mr. Spring's great-great-grandfather, Capt. Amos Spring II, migrated to what is now Le Roy, Genesee County, from Otis, Berkshire Couty, Mass., just in time to serve in the War of 1812.

In 1936 Dorothy Mae married Harry Donald Maier, a farmer of Welsh-German extraction from Attica. They ran a dairy farm in the township of Attica for 30 years. Later in life she worked as a nurse's aide at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Batavia where she distinguished herself as a caring and disciplined healthcare provider. Mr. Maier died in 1978. In addition to her professinal life she also managed to raise a large, loving and successful family.

Her oldest daughter, Joanne Gail (Maier) (Janes) Mankey, mothered eight children including a set of twins before she died in 1993. Her second daughter, Judith Louise Mayer, was a seminary student on scholarship when she died in 1967 at the age of 23. The youngest surviving daughter, Beverly Jeanette Burke, worked for 38 years at the New York State Department of Mental Health. In 2004 she was recognized for her lifelong service to her community by the Prince of Naples, son of the late King of Italy who invested her as a Dame of the Order of Merit of Savoy. Although retired from the state, Dame Beverly is currently pursuing her fourth degree at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in Miami, Fla.

Mrs. Maier's resolute principles of strength, discipline and self reliance will survive long into the 21st Century through her myriad grandchildren and great-grandchildren whose occupations include computer and communication technicians, nurses, and healthcare providers, a state trooper, lawyer, filmmaker, Marine and Air Force Cadet.

Mrs. Maier is survived by her youngest sister, Mrs. Helen Pitocchelli of Lancaster; her daughter, Dame Beverly J. Burke, RN of East Aurora; her grandchildren, Mrs. Susan Viator, LPN (Ret.), of New Iberia, La., Linda LaFrance, RN, of Charleston, S.C., Sarah Janes of Raymond, Miss., Christopher Janes (U.S. Navy, Ret.) of Chesapeake, Va., Adrian Benjamin Burke, Esq., of New York City and John and Jessica Mankey of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Jason Bandy, USMA (Ret.) of Margate, Fla., Joshua Bandy of Utica, Joseph and Elise Kaserman of Maine, State Trooper Brandon Viator and his wife, Capt. Melissa Viator (U.S.Army stationed in Karbala, Iraq) of Wasilla, Alaska, Cadet Justin Viator of New Iberia, Shane Bandy of Charleston and Caleb Mankey of Houston.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Wood Funeral Home in East Aurora, where the funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday followed by a burial at Forest Hills Cememtery in Attica.

i.	Roger Allen Maier, d. as an infant.
ii.	Joanne Gail Maier, m.(1) Thomas Janes by whom she had six children; m.(2) Living, by whom she had twins.
iii.	Judith Maier, Issue.
