At the age of 14 he started in the fire insurance business as office boy, and eight years afterward was made a member of the insurance firm of Granger, Smith, Miller & Co., of which firm he has now been a member seven years. Mar- ried in 1888 to GRACE ELIZABETH LEWIS of Creston, Ill. Fall of 1893 built at Edge- water where he now resides. He is vice-president Chicago Athletic association,
