Capt. Samuel7 Whitney (Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1) son of Samuel6 and Mary (Whitney) Whitney; born Gilsum, New Hampshire, 14 Jul 1781; married 26 Nov 1801, Hope Blish; married 2nd. in 1822, Elsey Evarts, born in 1796; died Aug 28, 1876.
Capt. Samuel Whitney was born in Gilsum. Soon after his marriage he moved to Chesterfield, New York, where he was one of the earliest settlers. He was captain of the local militia, and in the was of 1812 participated in the battle of Plattsburg. He was a farmer, and at one time engaged in lumbering. Was a deacon and one of the original members and organizers of the Presbyterian church in Keeseville, New York.
Elsey Evarts went to Keeseville, New York, from New England at an early day, and joined the Congregational church before there was any church edifice. She was untiring in her efforts to help build the church and sustain it in its work. Her husband died in 1840, and upon her devolved the arduous work of rearing the large family of children. She performed her work nobly and well. He died 11 Oct 1840; resided Chesterfield, New York.

i. Norman8 Whitney, born 16 May 1802; married Mary Wilcox Forsyth. ii. David Whitney, born Jan 3, 1804; married Maria Wright. iii. Dimas Elmira Whitney, born 11 Jun 1807; married Hiram Perry; resided Fort Covington, New York. Had one son, Samuel. She died 3 Jul 1833. iv. Samuel Whitney, born Jan 25, 1811; died Keeseville, New York, unmarried v. Harriett Zephia Whitney, born Sept 29, 1819; married Henry D. Andrews, and Heber S. Hurlbut. She died 1 Dec 1854, leaving one dau., Mayra Ellen, v. Oct 3, 1850; married John Ogleby Day; resided Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born 22 Oct 1849. - Ch.: Daniel. R., born 27 Feb 1878; Charlotte E., born 22 Jan 1884; Elsey Whitney, born July 225, 1885.
vi. Daniel Milo Whitney, born 28 Jul 1815; married Emily Reynolds. vii. John C. Whitney, born 19 May 1821; married Harriett Y. Dickinson.

viii. Luther Whitney, born 19 Feb 1825; married Jane E. Bigelow and Mary Emily Watson. ix. Lyman B. Whitney, born 5 Dec 1828; married Roxanna K. Hurlbut. x. Clarence J. Whitney, born 1 Nov 1834; married Sarah E. Colvin.
