VII. Sheldon Clark Whitney, b. at Derby, Conn., 1 Ap. 1799; went south over fifty years ago, and has not since returned. His cousin, Archibald Whitney, called on his family in 1848, and reported that he had four beautiful daughters. He was then living among the Choctaws, and was a river-pilot. He married Eliza Blanchard, who died in childbed, after a passage by sea from the south to New York City, the infant (her second child) surviving her only a few days. His second wife was a Spanish woman, name not reported.

VIII. Barnard Whitney, b. at Derby, Conn., 24 Dec. 1801; a merchant; married, 11 Feb. 1824, at Oyster Bay, L I., by Rev. Marmaduke Earl, Baptist, to Sarah Elvira Kane, born at Derby, 25 July 1805, dau. of Benjamin and Huldah (Kane) Kane. They dwelt at Oyster Bay for several years, and then moved to Paterson, N. J., where he died, 25 Nov. 1847, and was buried in Sandy Hill Cemetery. She was living at North Orange, N. J., in June 1877.

IX. Charles Dennis Whitney, b. at Derby, Conn., in 1803; a wholesale grocer, of the firm of Whitney and Sebor, New York City; died unmarried, in Ap. 1825, at the house of his sister, Mrs. Harriet (Whitney) Kellogg, and was buried in Latting's private cemetery, Oyster Bay, L. I.

Elizabeth Whitney, b. in Derby, Conn., 29 May 1805; married, 29 May 1823, at St. John's Church, in New York City, Theodore Edward Bliss, a merchant, sop of Theodore and Sarah (Jones) Bliss, of Bristol, England, where he was born, 26 Ap. 1794. They settled in New York, where he was agent for the sale of English cutlery. He died, without children, 16 Jan. 1851, in New York, and was buried in Trinity Cemetery. She was living in New York, in 1874.

I. Hannah Whitney, b. at Derby, Conn., 20 June 1785; married, 10 Aug. 1805, at Derby, Abram Remer, born at Carlisle, Penn., 7 June 1783, son of Lewis and Rebecca (Runyon) Remer. They dwelt at Derby, where he carried on a large business, employing many men in the manufacture of shoes, till May 1827; and then moved to Seneca Falls, N. Y., and, after ten years, to Montezuma, N. Y., where he kept a tavern and grocery for more than twenty years. They then dwelt with their son, Samuel Whitney Remer, at Davenport, Iowa, for three years; and with their dau., Mrs. Henrietta (Remer) Downs, at Downey Station, Iowa, till Aug. 1863; when they returned to Bridgeport, Conn. She died there,
