Spight, Marmaduke, Defendant
The deposi[t]ion of Will[ia]m Whitney taken before Mr Christopher Muschampe
esquier one of the Barons of the quenes Ma[jes]t[ies] Courte of Eschequer the
tenth Day of December in the xxjth yere of the reigne of our soveraigne lady Elizab[eth]
____ as ffollowith
[1 William W]hitney of Whytney in the County of Hereff[ordshire] gentilman of the age of xxvjto yeres [obscured] sworne and examyned the day and yere above said. To the first Interrogatory he deposeth and saith that he doth not knowe Marmaduke Spight marchant named in this Interr[ogatory], nor did ever see him to his remembrans.
2 Item to the second Interrogatory he saith that he nor any other for him or in his name did berowe
(to his knowlege) of the said Marmaduke Spight the some of CCli mencyoned in
in this Interr[ogatory], but further saithe that he himself delt first with one John Shrawley a Broker of
london about February last for to helpe him to CCli for six monthes, who p[ro]mysed this
deponent this to helpe to borowe him so muche money, and after at their next meting the said
Broker tolde this deponent that he had borowed for him of Mar_h one Marmaduke Spight
a m[er]channt twoe hundreth poundes for vj monethes space, and that he must paye for the
lone thereof to the said Spight at the said vi monethes ende, the some of CCli
and also to be bounde unto the said M[ar]maduke Spight in a bonde of ___ for the suer
the suer payment of the said CCli at the ende of the said vj monethes, and
futher saith that within a daye of ij after he was so bounde, unto the said Spight
he and then he recyved his money of the said Shrawley and not of the said Spight
