Clark J.7 Whitney (Willard Washington6, Joshua5, Joshua4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Willard Washington6 and Laura Wheeler (Pearsall) Whitney, was born 12 Jul 1832, Avon, MI.
He married 25 Dec 1853, Ellen Maria VanDeventer. She was born 10 Nov 1831.
He was born in Oakland County, MI, where his boyhood was passed in that round of recreation, shooting and labor, the lot of farmers' sons of fifty years ago. When he reached the age of eighteen he embarked upon an independent existence and engaged in the fishing business in Lake Michigan. In 1855 he embarked in the music business and has been in it ever since. In 1875 in connection with his music business he became interested in theatrical business and built one of the finest theaters in America. He is also lessee and manager of twenty-five other theaters in the United States and Canada. He is a stockholder in the American Banking and Loan Association of Detroit, and stockholder, trustee and president of the Masonic Mutual Accident Association of America. In politics he is a Republican but takes no interest in practical politics. He is an attendant at St. Paul's Episcopal church. His life if fully described in the Cyclopedia of Michigan; resided Detroit, MI, 437 Woodward Ave.

Detroit, is one of the best known operatic managers in the country. v. Lillian E. Whitney, b. 16 Apr 1863; m. 30 Mar 1892, Charles Larned; resided 437 Woodward Ave. vi. Evalene Whitney, b. Mar 1865; d. May 1865. vii. Ella M. Whitney, b. Nov 1867; d. Aug 1869. viii. Bertrum C. Whitney, b. 9 Jan 1870; m. 31 Jan 1893, Beatrice S. Larned. He was b. Detroit, and is associated with his father in his music and theatrical business.
