Daniel Darling7 Whitney (Daniel6, Darling5, Daniel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Daniel6 and Nancy (Valentine) Whitney, was born 31 Jan 1819, East Woods, now Woodbury, Oyster Bay, L.I., NY, and died 10 Nov 1914, Brooklyn, NY.
He married firstly, 5 Jul 1845, 155 High Street, Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Titus, daughter of Henry and Phebe (Titus) Titus. She was born 11 Jun 1822, Glen Cove, L.I., NY, and died after 1880.
He married secondly, about 1893, Henrietta Titus, daughter of Silas and Mary (Titus) Titus. She was a niece of his first wife, daughter of her sister Mary. She was born 30 May 1841, Westbury, NY, and died 26 Dec 1912, Brooklyn, NY.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a merchant, of 20 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1869 . . . . He was alderman of the First Ward of the City of Brooklyn, in 1858, 1863, 1864, 1865, 1368 and 1869; president of the Board of Aldermen for 1865; acting-mayor of Brooklyn, during the presence of the mayor, Hon. A. M. Wood, in Charleston, S.C., to assist in the ceremony of restoring the national flag to Fort Sumpter; and was chairman of the committee appointed to represent the City of Brooklyn at President Lincoln's funeral, in Washington. He has been, since 1874, president of The Hamilton Fire Insurance Co., 11 Wall Street, N.Y.; and, since 1 July 1875, Registrar of Arrears for the City of Brooklyn."
Mayor of the City of Brooklyn 1886 - 1887.
Alderman of the City of Brooklyn 1858 and re-elected 1863/1864/1865/1868 and 1869. In 1865 he was President of the Board of Aldermen.
Appointed to represent the City of Brooklyn at the wake of President Abraham Lincoln in New York City.
Registrar of Arrears for Brooklyn in 1875.
President of Hamilton Fire Insurance Company for twenty-five years.
Member of Sands Street Methodist Church from 1850 until his death.
