He married, 9 July 1906, Grundy Co., MO, Tressa B. Ritcherson, daughter of Alpheus and Louisa Jane (Tate) Ritcherson. She was born 19 Jan 1890, Grundy Co., MO, and died 1 Feb 1961, Trenton, MO.

Joe and Tressa Whitney lived and farmed in Grundy County all their married lives.
