Family:Whitney, Shugbrough (c1684-1746)
Lt. Col. Shugbrough Whitney, Esq. (Thomas), son of Thomas and Maria (Boleyn) Whitney, was born about 1684, and died 5 Apr 1746, killed at the Battle of Falkirk Muir.
His name was also listed as "Shuckburg Witney" and "Shuckburgh Whitney".
He married firstly Margery Eyre, daughter of John and Margery (Preston) Eyre, of Eyrecourt Castle, Co. Galway.
He married secondly, 7 Aug 1743, Edinburgh, Scotland, Margaret Dunbar, daughter of Alexander Dunbar.
He received a commission in the army on 25 Aug 1704.[1]
He is mentioned in the will of his brother Thomas Whitney, dated 30 Apr 1740, as "Shuckburgh Whitney, Lieut. Colonel in H.M.'s service."
He wrote "a holographic letter, Nov. 26, 1745, from Col. Shugbrough Whitney to Lieut. Campbell, giving an account of the battle of Preston Pans and advice for strategy in future actions."[2]
His will was written 27 Nov 1744 or 1745, Edinburgh, and proved 3 Feb 1747. The probate of his will describes him as "Shugbrough Whitney Esquire, late of Edinburgh North Britain and late Lieutenant Colonel in Colonel Ligoniers now Colonel Naizons Regiment at Falkirk in North Britain". In it he appoints Margaret as his sole executrix and legatee.

Margaret Dunbar was a direct descendant of the Scottish royal family.
