Miss Edith Margaret De Lorme.

Descendant of James Rex Whitney, of Connecticut.
Daughter of John Francis William De Lorme and Elizabeth Mildred James, his wife.
Granddaughter of William Martial De Lorme and Margaret Mary Whitney, his wife.
Gr.-granddaughter of Jedidiah Whitney and Keziah Barrett, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of James Rex Whitney and Mary Allen, his wife.
James Rex Whitney first enlisted in the militia and then in the navy. His cutter was captured by two British vessels and John Paul Jones pursued, overtook the enemy and rescued the cutter and her crew. He served with this commander and was with him in that memorable battle between ôBon Homme Richardö and the ôSerapis.ö He was born at Middletown, Conn., 1760, and died at Washington, Miss., 1822.

Gr.-granddaughter of Caleb Goodrich and Huldah Butler, his wife.
Caleb Goodrich was a minute man in Capt. David Noble's company, at the Lexington Alarm. He was sergeant at Ticonderoga and lieutenant in Capt. John Strong's company, Col. John Brown's Berkshire county regiment. He was born at Wethersfield, Conn., 1731, and died at Pittsfield, 1777.

Eleazer Gilson, 1777, turned out as a minute man under Capt. Aaron Jewett, Col. Samuel Bullard's regiment. He was born at Groton, Mass., 1720.
Nathaniel Gilson, served five years under different commands. He was born at Peperell, Mass., 1759, and died at Stoddard, N. H., 1839.

Hugh Brent, 1776, commanded a company from Prince William county, under Col. Henry Lee. He was born in Stafford county, Va., 1739, and died in Mason county, Ky., 1813.
Ignatius Taylor, 1776, served as captain of militia of St. Mary's county, and was major at the close of the war. He was born in St. Mary's county, 1742, and died in Washington county, 1807.

Maurice Langhorne, (1775-76), served in the Committee of Safety of Cumberland county, where he died, 1816.
Rowland Chambers served in the militia under Capt. Jacob Ten Eyck until he was a cripple from exposure in the field.[p.84] He contributed supplies and aided the troops throughout the war. He was born in Dauphin county, Pa., 1744, and died in Bracken county, Ky., 1821.
William Moore entered the army as sergeant of the Third Virginia and rose to lieutenant. For his service he received land in Kentucky, where he died, 1818, aged sixty-five.

James Orne (1734-1804), served as a minute man and turned out at various alarms under different commands. Upon his tomb at Mount Hope, Attleboro, is inscribed lieutenant. He was born at Boston.

Asaph Sherman (1741-1810), served as lieutenant of a company formed at Grafton, 1775, commanded by Capt. Luke Drury. He died at Rutland, Vermont.
