Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Stephen Read and Mary Grant, his wife; Abner Whitney and Sarah Hilton, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Bartholomew Read and Mary Harris, his wife (m. 1748).
Abner Whitney, (1734-1802), served at the siege of Boston in Capt. Ephraim Corey's company, Col. William Prescott's regiment. His son, Abner, enlisted at seventeen.
Urial Whitney, (1757-1835), served in the Massachusetts Continental Line. He was born at Shirley, Mass., and was a pensioner when he died at Gorham, Maine.
Bartholomew Read with his three sons, Abraham, Josiah and John, served in Col. Ebenezer Francis' regiment, raised for the defense of Boston. He died at Freeport, Maine, about 1816, at the advanced age of ninety.

Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Michael Farley and Elisabeth Choate, his wife.
Michael Farley, (1719-89), served in the Provincial Congress and as sheriff, 1775-79. He held the principal offices of the town and was appointed major general of militia, 1781. [p.164] Ammunition was kept in his house and his wife filled the powder horns of the soldiers as they marched to meet the enemy. His civility to Lafayette when he visited Ipswich is a matter of record. He had three sons in the army.

Granddaughter of Joseph Foster, Jr., and Sarah Baldwin, his wife (m. 1779); Elijah Wilder and Asubah Wells, his wife (m. 1778).
Gr.-granddaughter of Joseph Foster and Sarah Brown, his wife.
Joseph Foster, (1700-80), turned out from Billerica at the Lexington Alarm and his five sons responded to the call to arms. He was born at Ipswich.
Joseph Foster, Jr., was a minute man in Capt. Jonathan Stickney's company, Bridge's regiment, in the first call for troops. He was born at Billerica, 1753.
Elijah Wilder served in Capt. Daniel Robbin's company, Col. Asa Whitcomb's regiment at the Lexington Alarm. At the Bennington and Rhode Island Alarms he responded to the calls under Col. Josiah Whitney. He was born 1757.

Josiah Ballard, (1721-99), enlisted in Capt. John Trask's company for the defence of Ticonderoga, 1777. He subsequently volunteered under Capt. Ebenezer Goodale for service in the Northern army. He died at Lancaster.

Owen Biddle, (1737-99), served in the Provincial Congress and on the Committee of Safety. He was president of the Board of War, and a member of the Constitutional Convention. He was born at Philadelphia, where he died.

Robert Earle, (1757-1833), entered the army, 1776, served as lieutenant, 1777, and, 1778, commanded a company under Col. Josiah Whitney.

Simon Brooks, (1760-1836), was guard at the Springfield Armory and served in the Burgoyne campaign. He was born at Springfield, and was a pensioner when he died there.

Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Joshua Atwood and Prudence Parker, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Jonas Parker and Lucy Parker, his wife.
Jonas Parker served in Capt. John Parker's company at the [p.315] battle of Lexington. At the second fire from the enemy he was wounded and sank upon his knees to reload his gun, when he was pierced by a bayonet and died where he first stood and fell. He was born at Lexington, 1722.
