Oliver Lyman was lieutenant of minute men, 1775, and captain of militia, 1776. He served under
different commands at various alarms and aided in guarding the prisoners captured at Bennington.
He commanded a company under Col. Ezra May at Stillwater and Saratoga. He was born in
Northampton, Mass., 1739, and died in Charlotte, Vt.
[p.80] Abner Holden, (1722-1805), was a member of the first Provincial Congress and a delegate
to the convention that ratified the State Constitution. He was born in Watertown and died in
Westminster.
Samuel Merriam, (1723-1804), served in the defense of Boston and at the Bennington Alarm. He
was born in Lexington and died in Westminster, Mass.
Elisha Sheldon (1709-1779), served as Assistant Governor of the Colony from 1775 until his
death.
Edward Jackson, (1739-1830), served as a minute man at the Lexington Alarm and at various
alarms, from Westminster. He was born in Newton and died in Westminster.
Lynde Lord, (1733-1801), served as sheriff of Litchfield county for twenty-four years. He was
appointed commissariat for purchasing supplies for the Connecticut troops. He was born and died
in Litchfield, Conn.

notwithstanding his lameness. He was born in Hopkinton, Mass., and died in Natick.

[p.212] Phineas Whitney, (1747-1830), was at the battle of Bunker Hill in the breast works where
the British were advancing. He had put the last charge to his gun when the works were taken, and
although wounded made his escape. He was unfit for further duty and was placed on the pension
roll of Oxford county, Maine. He was born in Harvard, Mass., and died in Norway, Maine.
