Gr.-granddaughter of Jesse Whitney and Mary Sawyer, his first wife.
Jesse Whitney, (1757-1832), enlisted 1776 in Capt. Hart William's company and 1777 re-enlisted for three years under Capt. Richard Mayberry. Pension was allowed for four years actual service as private in the Massachusetts line. He died at Saco, Maine.

Gr.-granddaughter of Jedediah Whitney and Keziah Barrett, his wife.
[p.331] Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of James Rex Whitney and Mary Allen, his wife.
James Rex Whitney, (1760-1822), first enlisted in the militia, then in the navy. His cutter was captured by two British vessels and John Paul Jones pursued, overtook the enemy and rescued the cutter and her crew. He served with this commander and was with him in that memorable battle between ôBon Homme Richardö and the ôSerapis.ö He was born in Middleton, Conn.; died in Washington, Miss.
