Noah Phelps, (1740-1809), who had served under Amherst when Ticonderoga was taken from
the French 1759, visited the fort in disguise 1775. His report to Ethan Allen led to its successful
surprise and capture. He served in the New York and Jersey campaigns and commanded a
regiment at the close of the war. He was born and died in Simsbury.

Hopkinton, Mass.; died in Watkins, N. Y.
