John Goffe (1701-81), who had fought in the seven years' war, was too old for active service. He
served as military instructor, and many young officers who became distinguished in the
Revolution were his pupils. He was born in Londonderry; died in Derrifield, N. H.

Daniel Steward (1735-1802) enlisted in Capt. Aaron Gould's company, 1777, and was stationed
at Hull, near the entrance to Boston Harbor. He was born in Salem; died in Fitchburg, Mass.
Daniel Steward, Jr. (1758-1840), enlisted for six months under Capt. David Guild, Col. Josiah
Whitney, and subsequently served under Capt. David Carlisle. He was placed on the pension roll
of Somerset County, Me., 1832. He was born in Lunenburg, Mass.; died in Skowhegan, Me.

[p.49] John Moor (1731-1809) commanded a company of Bedford County militia at the
Lexington Alarm, fought at Bunker Hill and was promoted after the battle as the major was killed.
Ill-health compelled him to retire from active duty, but he aided the patriot cause in civil life. He
was born in Litchfield, N. H.; died in Norridgewock, Me.

Elisha Kent was selectman, 1776, of Marshfield, Mass., where he died. He was born in
Scituate.

Israel Whitney (1751-1827) served at the Lexington Alarm, and in 1781 was lieutenant in Capt.
Thaddeus Pollard's company. He was born and died in Harvard, Mass.
