"[1757] Sunday May 1st was a Vary Sower Cold Morning--after we
Had Eat Som Milk we Set out   Soon Traveld Down into ye
Desolate woods after a while Came by a Pond then to a
Tavern Drinkd a Dram and Set of again in ye Rain after So
Long a time Came to ye widdw. Seggecks where our Teem
Left us   Then I Set out with a Small Party Forward &
Traveld to Capt. Collis in Canaan Drinkd a Dram   Then
went To Mr. Fanals Thinking it To Have been ye Tavern
there we Got Some Directions and Found ye Tavern--
There I Se Docr. Lee He Told me yt Mr. Stanton Had Movd
away Into Sheffield--after Some time our Compy. came Up
I Got Some Victals and Set out & went to Major Whitnies
there Lit of Capt. Fitch & Lt. Huntly Eat Some Supper
& went to Bead Lodgd Alone Slept Vary Comfortable--
  ye 2nd In ye Morning we Recd. our Arms Eat Some Break-
fast and our Men went off Then Capt. Fitch & I staid &
Drinkd a Dish of Tea and Had Some Discorce with ye
Majrs. Family and we Came away   I went in at Mr. Fanels &
Got My Pack yt I Left there ye Last Night--This Day My
Back Felt Like Some old Hors yt Had Ben Gauld with a
Saddle &c--Now we Came to Robenes & Had a Waggon
Provided to Help Us along   Then Pride & I Drinkd a Mug
of Flip & went of Soon Crosd ye River and went into Sals-
berry I went with ye waggon up to Reeds in Salsberry where
I went to Dinr. with ye Officers Eat Some fried Meet & Eggs
Then Set out and went Down to ye Read Hous where
Capt. Slap Se Somany Garls--
Then we went according to our Directions by ye Red Hous
then By the Barn then about 10 Rods and over a Small
Bridg then By a Little House & by a Stake & out of Con-
necticutt into ye Oblong Then we went about 2 Mile To
Smiths a Tavern & Set Them to Fidln. & Dansing . . . "
