Was appointed postmaster in 1838, and excepting eight years served till he resigned the office in 1863. His son Summer lived in Rockland, Me., in Oct., 1874, of the firm of S. Whitney & Son, manufacturers of lime, and dealers in corn flour, West India goods and groceries. He printed a partial record of the family. He d. June 20, 1865; res. Freeman, Me. 3566. i.
