They were living at Germantown, Penn., in 1871. He was then engaged in business with his brother, Frederick Augustus Hoyt, in Philadelphia. In March 1876, he resided in Philadelphia, a member of the firm of Hoyt and Day, merchant-tailors. He has not used his first name, James, for twenty years.

He was born at Huntington, L. I., 7 July 1822. They dwelt at New York and Darien; in the last of which she died, 5 Aug. 1864, and was buried. He was living at 133 West 13th Street, New York, in March 1876.
