- Question is: Did you ever come to any further conclusion about the question of which Sarah Whitney married Jonathan Ball on 5 Jan 1709/10 in Watertown. If it was the Sarah who was the daughter of Nathaniel-3, wouldn't she have been listed as Sarah Chadwick for a second marriage??? If that would have been the practice at that time, that would then seem to validate the idea of the Sarah being the first child of Eleazar and Dorothy Ross Whitney.
Some references say that Sarah4WHITNEY, b. 13 Feb 1678/9, Watertown, daughter of Nathaniel3 (John2, John1) was the wife of Jonathan BALL, b. 29 Mar 1680, Watertown. Others say that she married Charles CHADWICK, b. 19 Nov 1674, Watertown, on 11 Apr 1697 in Watertown.
Some references say that Sarah3WHITNEY, b. 23 Mar 1665/6, Watertown, daughter of Thomas2 (John1) was the wife of Charles CHADWICK.
The definitive answer to part of this is that the probate of the estate of Nathaniel3 WHITNEY mentions his daughter Sarah CHADWICK as one of the heirs on 15 Jan 1734/5. Charles CHADWICK was still living on 2 Dec 1734 (same probate). As a result, she could not be the one who married Jonathan BALL in 1709/10. The Watertown VRs definitely call each bride Sarah WHITNEY of Watertown. The conclusion is that the bride of Jonathan BALL could not have been the daughter of Nathaniel3, and so must be someone else.
The only likely candidate is the Sarah4 WHITNEY, daughter of Eleazer3 (Thomas2, (John1), b. 29 May 1688, Sudbury. The dates are harmonious, since that makes Sarah (WHITNEY) CHADWICK four years younger than her husband, and Sarah (WHITNEY) BALL eight years younger than her husband. Furthermore, Eleazer3 was a resident of Watertown by 1697 (if not earlier), making his daughter "of Watertown" in 1709/10.
My conclusion is that Sarah4 WHITNEY, daughter of Nathaniel3, b. 13 Feb 1678/9, Watertown, married, on 11 Apr 1697, Watertown, Charles CHADWICK, b. 19 Nov 1674, Watertown.
My further conclusion is that Sarah4 WHITNEY, daughter of Eleazer3, b. 29 May 1688, Sudbury, married, 5 Jan 1709/10, Watertown, Jonathan BALL, b. 29 Mar 1680, Watertown.
Who Sarah3 WHITNEY, daughter of Thomas2, b. 23 Mar 1665/6, Watertown, married, if anyone, is unknown to me. It is proven that she did not marry Charles CHADWICK, and she was fourteen years older than Jonathan BALL.
