6571 I. Samuel Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 12 Ap. 1839; an ornamental plasterer; married in Mansfield, Ohio, 7 Nov. 1861, by Rev. Hugh L. Parish, a presiding elder of the Methodist Episcopal Church, to Martha Briggs, whose father then lived two miles north-west from Shelby. She was born in Donington, Lincoinshire, England, 28 Dec. 1842, dau. of Jesse and Ruth (Bartram) Briggs. They were living at 3 Mill Street, Shelby, in 1873. He served in the war of 1861, in Co. D, 15th Reg., Ohio Vol. Inf. 14495
6572 II. William Henry Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 26 Oct. 1841; enlisted at Shelby, in the Autumn of 1861, in Co. I, 15th Reg., Ohio Vol. Inf.; and was killed in the battle of Murfreesborough, Tenn., 31 Dec. 1863, and buried on the field of battle.
6573 III. Almira Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 20 Feb. 1844; married in Mansfield, Ohio, 23 March 1865, by Rev. I. G. W. Cowles, to William A. Hollenbaugh, a repairer of clocks and musical instruments, whose father then lived in Plymouth, Ohio. He was born in Madison, Penn., 22 Nov. 1835, son of John and Mary (Owing) Hollenbaugh. They were living at Shelby in 1873. 14498
6574 IV. Eli Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 5 May 1846; enlisted in Co. H, 64th Reg., Ohio Vol. Inf.; was killed 9 May 1864, in the battle of Rockyface Ridge, in Georgia, and was buried on the field of battle.
6575 V. Sarah Jane Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 16 Nov. 1848; died there, 16 Sept 1849, and was buried in the Shelby Cemetery.
6576 VI. Mary Melinda Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 26 Aug. 1850; married at the house of her uncle, John Whitney, four miles west of Jackson, Mich., 20 Sept 1866, by Rev. David Winton, of the United Brethren, to Jacob Briggs, a farmer, whose father then lived near Shelby. He was born in England, 9 Dec. 1846, son of Jesse and Ruth (Bartram) Briggs. They settled in the house where her grandfather, Henry Whitney, lived and died, four miles from Shelby; and in 1871, moved to Blooming Grove, Ohio, where they were living in 1873. He enlisted in 1864, in the 60th Reg., Ohio Vol. Inf.; served under Burnside; took part in nineteen engagements; was discharged at Cleveland, Ohio; and reached home 24 July 1865, entirely unharmed. 14503
6577 VII. Isidore Jane Whitney, b. in Shelby, Ohio, 17 March 1854; and was living there, with her parents, in Aug. 1874.
