Samuel Whitney was not a son of John2 and Elizabeth (Smith) Whitney of Norwalk. Instead he was a son of Nathaniel3 and Sarah (Hagar) Whitney of Watertown, MA. This is proven by the records of the settlement of Nathaniel's estate.
