Alden A.⁷ Whitney (Abel⁶, Elijah⁵, Elijah⁴, Isaiah³, Thomas², John¹), son of Abel⁶ Phebe (Hopkins) Whitney, was born 22 Aug 1822, VT, and died 14 Jul 1909, Dallas Co., IA.^[1] Another record says je was born 26 Aug 1821, and died 17 Jul 1909, Adel, Dallas Co., IA, aged 87 years, farmer, widowed, son of Abel Whitney.^[2] He was buried in Longmire Cemetery, Dallas Co., IA. His inscription reads "Alden Whitney | Aug. 22, 1922 - Jul. 14, 1909".^[3]

He married firstly, 14 Sep 1847, Williamstown, VT, Mary Emeline White,^[4] daughter of Allen and Annie (Fisk) White. She was born 4 Aug 1829, VT, and died 11 Apr 1923, Williamstown, VT, aged 93 years 8 months 7 days, of chronic nephritis.^[5] She was buried in Williamstown Village Cemetery, Williamstown, VT.^[6] Apparently they were divorced. She remarried, 27 Dec 1865, Williamstown, VT, Levi Baxter Richardson.^[7]

He married secondly, 19 Sep 1865, St. Joseph Co., IN, Mary A. (Castleton) Ream, daughter of Henry and Rosanna (Croy) Castleman. She was born 23 Oct 1838, Stark Co., OH, and died 1 Jan 1889. She is buried in Longmire Cemetery, Dallas Co., IA.^[8] Apparently they were divorced. She had married firstly, 20 Nov 1856, DeKalb Co., IN, William Ream/Reem.^[9]

He married thirdly, 17 Aug 1879, Dallas Co., IA, Martha (Ollum) Harrison.^[10] She was born 25 Mar 1829, OH, and died after 1900. She had married firstly, 25 Jul 1845, PA, Lewis Martin Harrison.^[11]

He received a pension as an invalid soldier in the Civil War, having served as 1st Sergeant, Co. H, 12th Indiana Cavalry, beginning 11 Mar 1907, until his death on 15 Jul 1909, Certificate No. 52071, former roll No. 23879. His address was Adel, IA.^[12]

Enlisted as a Corporal in Company F, Indiana 29th Infantry Regiment on 27 Aug 1861. Promoted to First Sergeant on 15 Jul 1862. Mustered out on 30 Jul 1863.

Enlisted as a Private in Company H, Indiana 12th Cavalry Regiment on 12 Jan 1864. Promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 1 May 1865. Mustered out on 30 May 1865.
