Family:Whitney, Allen (1806-1862)
Allen7 Whitney (John6, Samuel5, John4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of John6 and Patty (Chase) Whitney, was born 18 Mar 1806, Henderson, NY, and died 22 Apr 1862, Oneida, MI, where he was buried in the Grand Ledge Village Cemetery.
He married firstly, 27 Sep 1831, Ellisburg, NY, Aramantha McDorman Wright, daughter of George and Electa6 (Whitney) Wright, and granddaughter of John5 and Rebecca (Morehouse) Whitney. She was born 25 Mar 1810, Manlius, NY, and died 8 Jan 1833, Ellisburg, NY, where she was buried in the Carpenter Cemetery.
He married secondly, 27 Nov 1834, Beverly, Canada West, Sarah Lake, daghter of John and Sarah (Mathews) Lake. She was born 28 Jan 1811, Little Nation, Canada West, and died after 1874.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a carpenter and joiner . . . . They settled in Ellisburgh, . . . . After her death, he went to Furnace Falls, on the Gananoque River, in Leeds, Canada West, about thirty miles north-east of Kingston. . . . . He moved from Canada into the State of New York, where he lived, for several years, in Ellisburgh and Henderson; went thence to Delta, Mich.; and finally settled at Grand Ledge, in Oneida, Mich., . . . . His widow was still living, in 1874, at Grand Ledge."

Grand Ledge Cemetery, Oneida, MI; m. 18 July 1855, Adams, NY, James Zufelt, son of Samuel and Margaret (Swartfeger) Zufelt, b. 28 June 1836, Canada; a farmer. They dwelt at Ellisburgh, NY, till 1862; and then settled at Oneida, MI, where be enlisted, 25 Dec 1863, in Co. G, 27th Reg., Mich. Vol. Infantry. He took part in the siege of Vicksburgh, the battles of Knoxville, the Wilderness, Petersburgh, and Richmond; and was mustered out 7 Aug 1865. He returned to Ellisburgh, and was living there in 1874. iii. Edwin Ruthven Whitney, b. 20 Apr 1838, Ellisburgh, NY; m. Nancy Hortensia Mann. iv. Henrietta Whitney, b. 24 Mar 1840, Ellisburgh, NY; d. 31 Aug 1864, Grand Ledge, MI, and was buried at Portland, MI; m. 14 Dec 1862, Grand Ledge, MI, John Benson, who served as a major in the war of 1861. She served as an army hospital nurse, sickened, returned to her mother's at Grand Ledge where she died. He was living at Portland, MI, in 1874. v. William Richard Whitney, b. 4 Nov 1843, Henderson, NY; m. Martha Josephine Hines. vi. Mary Lavinia Whitney, b. 5 Apr 1849, Delta, MI; m. 17 Sep 1866, Delhi, MI, William Henry Furguson, son of William and Sarah (Meek) Furguson; b. 10 May 1840, Port Stanley, Canada; a harness-maker; d. 23 Jun 1873, Grand Ledge, MI, and was buried there. She was living at Grand Ledge in 1874.
