Barnard6 Whitney (William Clark5, Henry4, Josiah3, John2, Henry1), son of William Clark5 and Mary (Thompson) Whitney, was born 24 Dec 1801, Derby, CT, and died, 25 Nov. 1847, Paterson, NJ.
He married, 11 Feb 1824, Oyster Bay, NY, Sarah Elvira Kane, daughter of Benjamin and Huldah (Kane) Kane. She was born 25 Jul 1805, Derby, CT, and died after June 1877.
Phoenix says the following:
- "Barnard Whitney, b. at Derby, Conn., 24 Dec. 1801; a merchant; married, 11 Feb. 1824, at Oyster Bay, L I., by Rev. Marmaduke Earl, Baptist, to Sarah Elvira Kane, born at Derby, 25 July 1805, dau. of Benjamin and Huldah (Kane) Kane. They dwelt at Oyster Bay for several years, and then moved to Paterson, N. J., where he died, 25 Nov. 1847, and was buried in Sandy Hill Cemetery. She was living at North Orange, N. J., in June 1877."

She was born Oct 1824, Irvington, Camptown, NJ, and died after 1910. They settled at Passaic City, and were living there in May 1875, without children. He enlisted, 30 May 1861, in Co. I, 2d Reg., N. J. Volunteers; and was discharged 30 Jan. 1863. iii. Edward Kellogg Whitney, b. 17 Sep 1828, Oyster Bay, NY; m. Margaret Smith. iv. Mark William Henry Whitney, b. 13 Jun 1831, Paterson, NJ; m.
