Clyde Perry11 Whitney (Lafayette10, Horace Burnham9, Horace Burnham8, Luther7, Nathaniel6, Samuel5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Lafayette10 Le/Frazier and Olive "Pearl" (Spencer) Whitney, was born 27 Sep 1893, Rocky Run Twp., Hancock Co., IL, and died 19 Mar 1979, Superior, WI.

He married, 3 Feb 1921, Bozeman, MT, Bertha Ethel Metcalf, daughter of John Luther and Annie Laurie (Metcalf) Metcalf. She was born 1 Dec 1902, Roscoe, MO, and died 15 Dec 1980, Superior, WI.

Clyde was a master mason of Lima Lodge #135. He was a disabled WWI Veteran taking a shell fragment in his right arm in France. He lost most of the use of his right arm as a result. His sergeant Luke Whalen saved his life. Clyde homesteaded in the Red River Valley and in Montana. He attended the University of Bozeman, MT, and eventually moved back to IL to the family farm in Lima. He moved from Lima, to Bayfield, WI, picking berries and apples and homesteading there. He attended the University of Minnesota for poultry and bee keeping, returning to IL and later to work as carrier for the Star mail route in 1934 in Kingston, MN, a mail and milk run. In 1938 he moved to Cloverton, MN, and worked at a Veteran Conservation Camp in Danbury [sic] and Hinkley [sic], MN, finally moving to Duluth, MN. While in Duluth he began serving on the Great Lake Ore Ships until he retired from the White Star Great Lakes Shipping Co., where he served as a cook.

He and his wife Bertha are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, WI.

iv. Thomas Lafayette Whitney, b. 16 Nov 1927, Lima, IL; d. 17 Sep 2011, Duluth, MN.
