Edson8 Whitney (Luther7, Nathaniel6, Samuel5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Luther7 and Jerusha (Burnham) Whitney, was born 1798, VT, and died May 1865, KS.

He married, Hancock Co., IL, Martha C. Hill, daughter of Charles Hill. She was born 24 Mar 1804, KY, and died 5 Aug 1875, Salt Lake City, UT.[1]

Edson, son of Luther Whitney b. 1777 Vermont was a prominent Whig politician in the history of Hancock County, Illinois. He was Sheriff for many years and "In the difficulties between the old citizens and Mormons he took an active part." He removed his family to Leavenworth, KS, about 1855.[2]

Questionable that Edson was the person killed in St. Louis according to Pierce. It might have been brother Cooley Whitney.[3]
