Family:Whitney, Edward (c1757-a1850)
Edward Whitney, (poss.) Joseph5 Whitney, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), possibly son of Joseph5 Whitney, He was born about 1757, or between 1760-1770, or between 1774-1784 (according to various censuses), ME, and died after 1850.
He married, -- Nov 1788, Portland, Cumberland County, ME, Martha Moody, by Samuel Freeman, Esq.,[1] daughter of Houchin and Dorcas (Cox) Moody. She was born say 1763, and died Jan 1850, Carroll Co., NH.
Children of Edward and Martha (Moody) Whitney:
i. Dorcas Whitney, b. ca. 1789, ME; enumerated on the 1810 census. Although we only know of this daughter via unnamed census enumerations, there was a Dorcas Savage, age 61, residing with John and Edward whitney in 1850. This is the correct age to be this daughter, and as can be seen below, Martha Moody's mother was Dorcas (Cocks) Moody. ii. John Whitney, b. about 1797, probably Falmouth, Cumberland County, ME; m. Mary Grant.
