Family:Whitney, Elijah (1710-b1741)
Elijah4 Whitney (Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Richard3 and Hannah (Darling) Whitney,[1] was born 16 Apr 1710, Norwalk, CT,[2] and died before 15 Dec 1741.[3]
He married, 6 Jul 1734, Norwalk, CT, Rebecca Seymour,[4] daughter of John and Sarah (Gregory) Seymour.[5] She was born say 1714,[6] and died 8 Sep 1775, Danbury, CT.[7] She married secondly, about 1742, John Bouton (s1704-b1757), son of Joseph and Mary (Gregory) Bouton.[8] She married thirdly, before 7 Nov 1755, Capt. Josiah Starr (c1695-1778), as his second wife.[9]
Phoenix says the following:[10]
- They settled in Norwalk, where he died prior to 15 Dec. 1741, at which date his brother, Richard Whitney, of Stratfield, was appointed guardian to his daughter Hannah.
On 30 Nov 1752, Elijah Whitney and Samuel Whitney, of Norwalk, made choice of John Seymor of Norwalk to be their guardian.[11]
1756. Sept. 6. John Boughton, of Danbury, bequeathed his property to his wife, Rebecca, certain movables and use of lands, and the residue to his children, Rebecca, John and James, after a portion to Hannah, Elijah and Seth Whitney, children of his wife Rebecca by her first husband, and appointed his beloved wife Rebecca and his loving brother, Benjamin Boughton, his executors.[12]

i. Hannah5 Whitney, b. 22 Apr 1735, Norwalk, CT;[13] m. 23 Nov 1753, Woodbury, CT, John Reynolds.[14] ii. Elijah Whitney, b. 13 Oct 1736, Norwalk, CT;[15] m. Elizabeth Perry. iii. Samuel Whitney, b. Norwalk, CT;[16]; m. Sarah -----. iv. Seth Whitney. He was almost certainly the Seth Whitney of Danbury who d. bef. 3 Dec 1760. On that date Elijah Whitney [presumably his brother] was appointed administrator, and on 16 Dec 1760 the inventory was completed, amounting to £7 2s., and indicating that Seth Whitney was an unmarried man.[17]
