Family:Whitney, Frederick Sanford (1866-a1920)

Frederick Sanford⁹ Whitney (Henry Dow⁸, Lorenzo Dow⁷, Ira⁶,` Hezekiah⁵, Hezekiah⁴, Joseph³, John², Henry¹), son of Henry Dow⁸ and Harriet Clarina (Reynolds) Whitney, was born 19 Nov 1866, Belvidere, VT, and died after 1920.

He married firstly, before 1895, ----- -----.

He married, apparently secondly, about 1900, Josephine Leonora (Nichols) Davis, daughter of Leonard G. and Cornelia A. (Powell) Nichols. She was born 18 Aug 1861, Weston, VT, and died 24 Jun 1915, Weathersfield, VT.^[1] She had married firstly, 21 Mar 1881, Peru, VT, Robert W. Davis, son of Grovenor and Mary Ann (Farnum) Davis, born Feb 1845, Peru, VT, and died after 1920, Manchester, VT. Apparently they were divorced.

i.	Harry Robert Selden Davis, b. 12 Jun 1884, Mount Holly, VT; d. 20 Mar 1938, VT; m. Jennie Ella Wells.
ii.	Verner Melville Davis, b. 5 Jun 1888, Mount Holly, VT; d. 2 Jan 1916, Manchester, VT.
iii.	Alma Louella Davis [Whitney], b. 18 Jan 1889, Mechanicsville, VT; d. aft. 1940; she was adopted by her step-father; m. bet. 1920-1930, George S. Kebler.

i.	Guy Maxwell10 Whitney, b. 14 Jul 1895, Brookbery, Quebec, QC; d. 16 Oct 1956, Worcester, MA.

Notes

In the 1900 census, Josephine said she had been married for zero years, and had one child, still living. This is despite the fact that her three Davis children were still alive. She couldn't be the mother of Guy since he was born at least four years before their marriage, forcing us to supply an otherwise unknown first wife for Frederick. If the marriage was earlier, she could be Guy's mother.
