George W. Whitney ([prob.] Rudolph, William, George), probably son of Rudolph and Sarah (Blinn) Whitney (see Notes below), was born 4 Dec 1871, NY, and died 8 Mar 1901 [gravestone] or 9 Mar 1901, Lake Placid, NY.[1] He was buried in North Elba Cemetery, North Elba, NY.[2]

He married 26 Sep 1893, Schroon, NY, Kate V. Fairfield,[3] daughter of William and Clarissa (Sage) Fairfield. She was born 23 Dec 1867, Essex Co., NY, and died 7 Oct 1933, Lake Placid, NY.[4] She was buried in North Elba Cemetery, North Elba, NY.[5]

Children of George W. and Kate V. (Fairfield) Whitney:

i. Lila A. Whitney, b. Nov 1895, NY; d. betw. 1910-1915; bur. North Elba Cemetery, North Elba, NY;[6] unmarried.
ii. Mary L. Whitney, b. 17 Oct 1898, NY; d. 12 May 1996, Saratoga Co., NY.[7]
iii. Kathleen F. Whitney, b. 9 Dec 1900, NY; d. Nov 1983, Saratoga Co., NY.[8]

Notes

There were apparently two separate George W. Whitney men living in Essex Co., NY, at the same time, both listed in the 1900 census. One is the married man above, and the other is the unmarried son of Rudolph (1850-1918) and Sarah (Blinn) Whitney, q.v. They were apparently both born in Dec 1871 in NY. Since this man cannot be found before 1900, and the other cannot be found after 1900, it suggests a theory: these were the same man, and the 1900 census of his parents family lists him as single in error. This seems probable, and I have adopted that theory above. Perhaps deeds or probate records may confirm or refute this identification.
