George W. H. Whitney (Samuel) son of Samuel and Laura M. (Whiton/Widden) Whitney, was born Jun 1840, Kinderhook or Nassau, NY, and died between 1920 and 1930.

He married, about 1859, Mary Jane Carr. She was born about 1840, Ireland, and died after 1880.

He served in the Civil War as a Private in Co. A, 1st Massachusetts Cavalry, from 1 Dec 1863 to 26 Jun 1865.

In 1870 he was a moulder living in Chicopee, MA.

iii. Laura Jane Whitney, b. 25 Dec 1863, Adams, MA; d. 25 Jun 1939, St. Petersburg, FL; m. 4 Sep 1890, Springfield, MA, John Andrew Woelfel, b. ca. 1864, Springfield, MA, son of Simon and Elizabeth (-----) Woelfel.[3]
iv. Ellen Minerva Whitney, "Ella" b. 26 Apr 1866, Holyoke, MA;[4] d. 3 Nov 1867, Holyoke, MA, aged 1 year 6 months 8 days, of whooping cough.[5]
v. Charles H. Whitney, b. 10 Mar 1868, Holyoke, MA, or Chicopee, MA;{[6] d. 3 Aug 1873, Chicopee, MA.[7]
