Grace Louella9 Whitney (Charles Louis8, John Drury7, Ebenezer6, Micah5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), daughter of Charles Louis8 and Florence Jessie (Gibson) Whitney, was born 6 Dec 1908, Hyde Park, MA,[1] and died 8 Mar 1996, Cumming, GA.
She married, 7 Sep 1935, Hyde Park, MA, Duncan Archibald Crawford, son of John and Permelia (Turpel) Crawford. He was born 4 Aug 1904, Dedham, MA, and died 10 May 1972, Falmouth, MA.
Grace Whitney worked as a clerk at the Norfolk Co. Registry of Deeds in Dedham, MA. She met Duncan "Arch" Crawford through her co-worker, his sister Catherine. Grace was an excellent gardener and landscaper, planning and planting the landscapes at all of the homes in which she lived. She was active in the work of the Presbyterian Church, and sang in the choir into her eighth decade. Duncan "Arch" Crawford graduated with honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1926, and was a Registered Professional Engineer. After graduation he was employed by the Stone and Webster Engineering Corp., working in both Boston and New York City. He took business courses at Harvard University during the Depression. He was transferred to Roanoke, VA, as the President of Roanoke Gas Co., and then to Atlanta, GA, where he was Vice President of Atlanta Gas Light Co. and Georgia Natural Gas Co. He became President of the company in 1959, and retired in 1962. Grace and Arch had two children, both of whom remain alive. Grace and Arch Crawford are both buried in Oakland Grove Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
