They dwelt, for a few years, at Ridgefield; were living, 1 Dec. 1800, at Reading, Conn.; and moved thence to Fairfield, Vt., in the early part of 1802, starting on sleds, and, for want of snow, finishing the journey on horseback, with six small children. Notes
Apparently daughter Anna was mother of Sherman Whitney, b. ca. 1833, NY. Since she is listed as a widow in 1880, apparently she married a Whitney, who died before 1850. On the other hand, she is listed as single in 1875. Alternatively, Sherman could have been illegitimate, and Anna reported being a widow to avoid embarrassment. This reconstruction is supported by the Phoenix notation that she was still single in 1875. The son Sherman has not been found in the 1850 Census. He is not found in Ancestry.com or the L.D.S. International Genealogical Index.
