Hugh Whitney, gent. (Robert), son of Robert and Mary (Rutter) Whitney,[1] born say 1575,[2] died 11 Mar 1610/1, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[3]

He married, 21 Aug 1599, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England, Elizabeth Egerton.[4]

He resided at Coole.[5]

Children of Hugh and Elizabeth (Egerton) Whitney:

i. Hugh Whitney,[6] b. ca. 1600.[7], bp. 16 Feb 1600/1, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[8] He, listed as "Hugh Whitney, Gent. of Coole, Cheshire, aged 48", was a deponent in a Chancery Deposition in 1648.[9]
ii. George Whitney, bp. 23 Jan 1602/3, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England,[10] bur. 2 Nov 1603, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[11]
iii. Maria Whitney, bp. 23 Aug 1604, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England,[12] bur. 29 Apr 1606, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[13]
iv. Elizabeth Whitney,[14] bp. 30 Jan 1605/6, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[15] Some sources state that "she married while under 5 years of age, Chalmondeley Salmon, 4 Jul 1610, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England,"[16] however, this seems unlikely. Note that Hugh Whitney's sister Elizabeth (Whitney) Massey had a daughter who married Cholmondeley Salmon of Cowlane.
v. Margaret Whitney, bp. 21 Feb 1606/7, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[17] She was probably the "Margaret Whitnay" who m. 26 Aug 1630, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England, John Weatherill.[18]
vi. Robert Whitney, bp. 26 Jul 1608, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England,[19] bur. 9 Apr 1612, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[20]
vii. John Whitney, bp. Feb 1609/10, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England,[21] bur. Apr 1612, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[22]
viii. Maria Whitney, bp. 1 May 1611, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[23]
