Ira7 Whitney (Ephraim6, Aaron5, Samuel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Ephraim6, was born 23 Nov 1799, Frederickstown (now Kent), NY, died 19 Sep 1856, Beekman, NY, and was buried in the cemetery near the Baptist Church at Towner's, Patterson, NY.
He married, 2 Oct 1822, Patterson, NY, Lydia Bolt, daughter of Azariah and Sarah (Lockwood) Bolt. She was born 27 May 1800, Putnam Co., NY, died 16 Apr 1864, Beekman, NY, "aged 63 years, 10 months, and 19 days", and was buried in the cemetery near the Baptist Church at Towner's, Patterson, NY.
Phoenix says the following:
- . . . a miller; . . . . He was admitted by letter, 19 Ap. 1845, to the fellowship of the Baptist Church at Towner's Four Corners, in Patterson; was chosen a deacon 7 June 1851, and dismissed 7 Feb. 1852; after which he belonged to the Baptist Church at Ludingtonville, in Kent. Tradition says that he was at one time licensed to preach. He lived, at one time, in Carmel, N. Y.

He enlisted, 11 Oct 1862, in Company G, 150th Regiment, New York State Volunteers; took part in the battles of Gettysburgh, PA, Resaca, GA, Dallas, GA, Atlanta, GA, Savannah, GA, Averysborough, NC, and Burtonsville, NC; and was mustered out 8 June 1865. xiv. Levina Whitney, b. 16 Nov 1844, Kent, NY; m. 12 Aug 1866, Patterson, NY, Elijah Ballard, son of Darius and Caroline (Eastwood) Ballard; b. 8 Sep 1837, Delaware Co., NY; resided Ludingtonville, NY, in 1874. He served for three years in the war of 1861, enlisting 4 Sep 1862, in the 172d Regiment, or Anthony Wayne Guard; was transferred to Company L, 6th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery; and was discharged, as a corporal, 20 July 1865, "having been in the battles of Williamsport, Manassas Gap, Bristow Station, eleven days in the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Allison's farms, Bethesda Church, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, Petersburgh, Cedar Creek, Shenandoah Valley, and Bermuda Front."
