Ira Whitney (George), son of George and Lillis (Graves) Whitney, was born circa1807, NY, and died 1 Oct 1886, Schroon, NY.
He married say 1839, Essex Co., NY, Betsey S. Lake, daughter of Amos and Abigail (Briggs) Lake. She was born 25 Jan 1817, NY, and died 17 Nov 1876, Schroon, NY.
It is not known for certain that Dora is the daughter of Ira and Betsey. She does not appear in the 1850 census with the family; the 1860 census indicates she was born in Germany; and the 1900 census indicates her parents were born in Germany. Perhaps she was adopted. Similarly, there is doubt that William was their son, since the 1855 census lists him as a boarder, not a child.
