James Whitney, was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Whitney, a pauper. He was bpt at Almeley Herefordshire on 6 Feb 1791 and died 15 Jun 1849, Bedminster, Bristol, Somerset, England.

James is described as "Gentleman of Bristol" on his son's marriage certificate and his death certificate.

He married, before 1826, Eliza -----. She was born about 1805, Isle of Wight, Hants, and died 30 Mar 1859, Cullompton, Devon, England.

Marriage date & place and wife's maiden name unknown but possibly Warburg/Warbury as this is used as a second Christian name for a grand-child.

Possible earlier marriage 2 Aug 1814 to Avis Wilson at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London James & Avis Whitney baptised a daughter Maria on 7 May 1815 at Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and buried her there on 8 Aug 1815 Have not traced a death of Avis Whitney 1815 - 1825

In 1841, the family of James, Eliza & Edwin are living in Hereford. James is shown as of Independant means.

After James's death, Eliza moved in with son Edwin and his family in Tiverton, Devon.
