Jason W.7 Whitney (Jason6, Isaac5, Jason4, Mark3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Jason6 and Adaline (Revere) Whitney, was born 1829, Alabama, probably Baldwin County, and died 1867, Red River Co., TX. He was buried in McCrury Cemetery, near Bogata, TX.[1]
He married 21 Apr 1853, Red River Co., TX, Sarah Morton.[2] She was born about 1835.
Co. D, 34th Texas Cavalry, C.S.A.
Jason joined the Confederate States Army at Pine Creek, June 29, 1861. He and his brother Samuel were in the 34th Texas Cavalry, and fought in the Indian Territory, Arkansas, Missouri, and Louisiana. Jason was wounded by a rifle shot and hospitalized at Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1865, he was released from duty at Jefferson, TX. In 1867 he had taken a load of cotton to Jefferson, and on the journey home, fell ill and spent the night by the side of the road. He later died from that illness.
Jason's widow married, sometime between 1867 and 1870, probably in Lamar County, Texas, John Thompson. He was born about 1835, Virginia. He had children William, Lee, Harison, and George from an earlier marriage. John and Sarah Thompson are buried at the old Mt. Pleasant Cemetary, Deport, Texas.
Children of Jason W.7 and Sarah (Morton) Whitney:
i. William8 Whitney, born about 1854, Texas; never married. He was not with the family in 1870 and no William Whitney resided in Lamar County at that time, so it is likely that he died before 1870. ii. Mary Whitney, born about 1856, Texas; married Henry Freer. iii. Sophia Whitney, born about 1858, Texas; married George Rucker. iv. John Robert Whitney, born Dec 1860, Texas; married Susan Mittie Keyes. v. Charles Napoleon Whitney, born about 1865, Texas; married Mary Elizabeth Reese.
