John6 Whitney (William5, Richard4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of William5 and Sarah (Bundy) Whitney, was born 29 Jan 1788, Lee, MA, and died 11 Feb 1844, Auburn, OH. He was buried in Newbury, OH.
He married firstly, 4 Oct 1814, Henderson, NY, Olive Mason, daughter of Jeremiah and Phebe (Luther) Mason. She died in Auburn, OH.
He married secondly, 8 Jul 1841, Chardon, OH, Hephzibah Ober, daughter of Zachariah and Abigail (Hardy) Ober. She was born 28 Mar 1803, Hollis, NH, and died 23 Mar 1869, Burton, OH. She married secondly, 12 Apr 1847, Geauga Co., OH, Elijah Hayes.
Phoenix says the following:[1]
- John Whitney, b. in Lee, Mass., 29 Jan. 1788; a farmer; settled near Woodville, in Ellisburgh, N. Y.; married, 4 Oct 1814, at Henderson, N. Y., Olive Mason, dau. of Jeremiah and Phebe (Luther) Mason, of Ellisburgh They moved from Ellisburgh, 4 Oct 1834, in company with Orrin Polley, Oliver Scott, and their families, and finally settled in Auburn, Ohio, where she died. He married (2d), 8 July 1841, at Chardon, Ohio, Hephzibah Ober, who was born in Hollis, N. H., 28 March 1803, dau. of Zachariah and Abigail (Hardy) Ober, of Hollis. He died, 11 Feb. 1844, in Auburn, Ohio, and was buried in Newbury, Ohio. He was a soldier in the war of 1812. His widow married a second husband about 1847, and moved to Burton, Ohio, where she died, 23 March 1869.

Mary Jane Whitney, b. 1 Apr 1826, Ellisburgh, NY; d. 25 Jun 1826, Ellisburgh, NY, and was buried there. vii.
