John Whitney, was possibly the same as John7 Whitney (Abel6, Benjamin5, Joseph4, Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), who was son of Abel6 and Phebe (Scott) Whitney, and born 28 Sep 1793, Tunbridge, VT.
In any case, he was born before 1800, VT, and died 29 Jul 1845, Boone Co, IL. He was buried in Bloods Point Cemetery, Flora Township, Boone Co., IL.[1]
He married firstly, date and place unknown, ----- -----. She died Jan 1826, as a result of childbirth.
He married secondly, 4 Oct 1827, Shelby Co., IN, Mary (Nichols) Lucas.[2] She was born about 1795, NY, and died after 1859. She was buried in Bloods Point Cemetery, Flora Township, Boone Co., IL.[3] She had married firstly, 27 Feb 1823, Shelby Co., IN, Eber Lucas, son of Moses and Abiah (Barnes) Lucas. He had married firstly Eunice Woolworth. He was born 1782, Middletown, CT, and died Jul 1826, Shelby Co., IN. He was buried in Hanover Cemetery, Morristown, IN.[4]

Notes
The fact that he named a son Scott, which was the maiden name of his possible mother, bolsters this identification. His birth state is given on the 1880 and 1900 censuses of his son Scott and daughter Sally.
