Family:Whitney, John (c1763-1837)
John Whitney (parentage unknown, but brother of Terence Whitney of County Longford, Ireland), was born about 1763, Ireland, and died 19 Jan 1837, Boston, MA, aged 73 years.
He married 7 Jan 1808, Church of the Holy Cross, Boston, MA, Catherine Monk, parentage unknown, by Rev. Francis A. Matignon. She was born about 1791, probably Ireland, and died 20 Aug 1819, Boston, MA, aged 28 years.
Both John and Catherine are buried in St. Augustine's Cemetery, South Boston, MA.[1]
John's will, dated 20 Jan 1837, mentions his pew No. 48 in the Church of the Holy Cross , Boston, which he gives equally to his son John Whitney, Jr., Thomas Whitney, and Catherine Moreland, or to any of them who occupy it. Residue of estate was given to son John Whitney, one third for his own use, the other two thirds to be held in trust for said son Thomas and daughter Catherine. To Catherine he gave the household furniture. Son John Whitney to be sole executor. $400 to be deducted from Catherine's share and invested in the name of grandson John M. Moreland, until age 21.

Children: a. John M. Morin/Moreland, b. 17 Sep 1830, Boston, MA; bapt. 10 Apr 1831, Church of the Holy Cross, Boston, MA; d. bef. 1851, when George S. Hale was administrator of his estate. b. Thomas H. Phillips, b. aft. 1838; living 1854, when George S. Hale was his guardian.
