John E. Whitney, parentage unknown, was born 1813, CT, or Madison Co., NY, and died 1873, Canton, OH. He was buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Canton, OH.^[1]

He married, about 1835, Maria T. Rogers, daughter of John M. and Magdalena (Livingstone) Rogers. She was born 1819, Franklin Co., NY, and died 1889, Mecosta Co., MI. She was buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Canton, OH.^[2]

Notes

It seems possible that he was a son of Nathaniel Whitney (1772-1837). Nathaniel and his wife were buried in the same cemetery in Manlius as John's daughter Olivia. The oldest female in John's family in 1840 might be his widowed mother Deborah.
