John Fletcher⁸ Whitney (John Clawson⁷, Daniel⁶, Darling⁵, Daniel⁴, Richard³, John², Henry¹), son of John Clawson⁷ and Catharine (Webb) Whitney, was born 26 Feb 1852, 107 Prospect Street, Brooklyn, NY, and died 16 Jan 1916, Brooklyn, NY.^[1] He was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.^[2]

He married, 10 Oct 1877, Brooklyn, NY, Florence Lucinda Onion, daughter of William H. and Mary (Bliss) Onion.^[3] She was born Apr 1857, NY, and died Oct 1932, Brooklyn, NY. She was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.^[4]

He was a merchant; was in business at 20 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, in Sep 1877, with his uncle and cousin.
